Who is Ron Senecal

Ron Senecal West Arm Memorial Pike Tournament

Ron Senecal was born on July 11 1957 and died accidentally in Sudbury in a car accident on September 22, 2007 at the age of 50. Ron started fishing when he was a teenager and his love for the sport grew with each passing year. He won 1st place in one of his first tournaments in 1988. His passion for the sport was evident all those years ago, as it was until his last day. Someone once described him as 'an encyclopedia of angling and hunting knowledge', which explains why people knew Ron as "the fishing guy". He learned everything there was to know about his sport and loved to teach others everything he knew, the ability to teach those skills was something else he did with passion. But to many he was much more than just the fishing guy...

Ron loved and cherished his family with all of his heart and all of his might. He was a father, husband, son, brother, mentor and friend to so many. His wife, his children, his parents and siblings have lost what most of us would describe as a "Rock". He was solid and always there for them. He married his wife, Linda on May 21, 1983 and had two beautiful children Stephanie now 24 and Andre, 23 as well a grandson Theo Senecal who was born in January 2009.

Entering the Top 50 circuit was what he looked forward to every fishing season because of the camaraderie and of course the competitive fishing! ("
Camaraderie is defined as: "the spirit of familiarity and trust existing between friends") Over the years he fished many tournaments and won quite a few and placed well in others. He won Rookie of the Year in 2005 and in 2007 he won Angler of the Year. I'm sure you all remember how proud he was when he found out. He might have rubbed it in just a little?

His wife and kids would like to thank friends and family for the love and support, in the loss of Ron who was their everything. It is still very difficult to comprehend that Ron is really gone. Ron was a passionate guy, and one of his greatest passions was fishing. As he would definitely say: "FISH ON!!"

"It has been said, 'time heals all wounds.' I do not agree. The wounds remain. In time, the mind protecting its sanity, covers them with scar tissue and the pain lessens. But it is never gone." - Rose Kennedy
